The septum is the wall in the nose that separates the two nasal passages and supports the overall nasal structure. Patients who suffer from a deviated septum can experience a number of serious health concerns. Due to genetics or injury, the septum may become bent or broken, causing asymmetry between the nasal passages. As a result, patients may experience chronic sinusitis, inflammation, bleeding, headaches, sleep apnea and/or snoring. In these instances, patients are often good candidates for septoplasty — a surgical procedure that corrects the flaws in the septum.

Our surgeon is an outstanding Orange County and Inland Empire nose surgery specialist who has earned a reputation for excellence throughout the Southern California. He lends his surgical expertise and vast experience to septoplasty patients to straighten a deviated septum, improve breathing and patients' overall health.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a medical procedure that, when performed by itself, typically does not treat aesthetic concerns with the nose. Because a deviated septum can interfere with patients' breathing and everyday activities, some health insurance companies will cover the expenses of septoplasty.

Prior to the procedure, our surgeon meets with patients personally to listen to their concerns and determine the right course of action. He schedules regular post-operative meetings as well to ensure proper healing. Although complications may arise from septoplasty, most of our surgeon's septoplasty Orange County / Inland Empire patients feel confident under his expert care.

Our surgeon begins septoplasty with a thorough examination of the nasal structure using an endoscope — a small, lighted camera. With the endoscope and other imaging technologies, he notes the shape of the septum and the structural integrity of the nose. After a detailed evaluation, our surgeon designs a personalized approach and plan to the procedure in order to help patients achieve improved airflow.

During septoplasty, our surgeon creates tiny incisions in the nostrils through which he extracts or straightens the bent cartilage of the deviated septum. He may also insert small splints or sutures to stabilize septum growth. In addition, our surgeon may suggest using saline nasal sprays to facilitate a healthy recovery.

Septoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis, with most patients able to return to their daily activities within a week. Patients are advised against blowing their nose for one to two weeks after the procedure.
